Read More »WellChild/ Tamariki Ora Week March 4th – 10th 2013
WellChild / Tamariki Ora week 2013 will echo the theme of National Chidlrens day that our Tamariki are our treasures by treasuring their health well-being and development by ensuring that they get all their checks on time .
The importance of timely immunisation has been well researched , in a similar way it is important for our Tamariki to get their health and development checks on time so that any potential problems can be picked up early and appropraite interventions started so that these issues don’t develop into major problems.
Last year we focussed on getting this process started with the 6 week check – this year we want to promote the next check which is around 8-10 weeks .
This is a follow on check concentrating on much the same issues but vital as a second step to monitor continued good growth and development. It is useful to check how the first immunisation went and prepare for the next one. Also a good chance to talk about continuing breast feeding , and looking at maternal health and well being ( sleep, nutrition and contraceptionas well as post natal depression) .
The Ministry of Health - Health Education web-site - https://www.healthed.govt.nz/ - also has lots of resources you can use for your promotion and we hope to have some more balloons available too soon.
