Family and Whanau Care and Support

Parenting young children is a challenging task.  WellChild/Tamariki Ora's aim is to provide educational, emotional, social and environmental support for families and whanau, in good times and in bad. Talk to your Well Child provider about the supports that you need.

Some useful resources include:

  • Ministry of Social Development Raising Children section provides links to ideas and help with raising children under 12. You'll find tips for keeping your kids safe at school and at home, financial support, children and divorce, coping with grief, and grandparents raising grandchildren.
  • Family services directory of the Ministry of Social Development lists local support services and is searchable by service type and region.

Finances:

The Plunket website has a useful section on finances including links to information on paid parental leave, working for families, family tax credit, childcare subsidy and child support.  The website  includes a baby budget.
