Newsletter - April 2004

Hello and welcome to the coordinators update

There is a real buzz in our new offices around WellChild /Tamariki Ora Week at the moment - and we are awash with website info. media releases, pamphlets, Street Flags and Push Play resources. I hope that you are also all busy with your preparations and are nearly ready for the week as it is almost upon us now.

Resources

National Office has a supply of wonderful bright blue and yellow street flags which we are keen to loan out they are a National resource so we would like them back for future use by other coalitions and at other events see attached order form. These flags are the long ones - designed to hang off lamp posts down the street , but you can also hang them up in big sports halls, community centres etc. and you might even find a local friendly Real Estate agent or car salesman with a tall stand alone frame they would lend you for a bit of free publicity. We do also have a few banners left as well.

Pamphlets, balloons, stickers and posters should all be in the resource units locally now budgets have placed the usual constraints on numbers so get on down and avoid rationing.

Our media packs will be out at the end of the week after Easter, if we have physical addresses for you all we will be happy to send you a copy. There has been a lot of interest in the media already re. childhood obesity but we hope we have given our release a slant that will get it some coverage too feel free to do your own thing locally as well.

Look out for our ad. in the TV Guide, and give your local radio station a call.

Mini grants & Roadshows

I enjoyed getting out and about with the roadshows - I hope those who attended felt it was worthwhile too - we missed out on the Far North and Dunedin - looking forward to 2005 there instead. I have had some constructive feedback, which I will include in my report to the Ministry re. resources and also LMC involvement and handover.

All the minigrants have been allocated now - we got a fairly good spread across the country and improved my knowledge of the geography of New Zealand considerably. Apologies to those of you who missed out - I do hope it hasn’t stopped you from embarking on WellChild /Tamariki Ora activities - there is always next year. It has been good to see lots of coalitions working in with their local Sports Trusts to fit in with the theme of encouraging physical activity, I hope that these connections once made will stay for future years.
