Newsletter - September 2005
Hello and welcome to an update from the desk of the National
WellChild / Tamariki Ora coordinator
First I shall begin with apologies for the delay in getting
this message out to you - we have been busy looking through
all the wonderful reports that this year’s coalitions
have sent in - they are so good that we think next year we
should have a prize for the best!
As promised we have also been trying to do some more long
term and strategic planning and looking at a re-vamp of the
week to try to reach a wider audience and get some all year
round awareness of WellChild/Tamariki Ora issues – they
don’t go away after the week do they?
We have some ideas among ourselves but really need your input
- this is your chance to have your say.
So attached to this newsletter should be a copy of a questionnaire
we would love you all to take just a few minutes to read and
complete – if you require a hard copy please let me
know and if you know of others who would like to participate
please either pass it on to them or let me have their details.

We have put a tight deadline on this one as we are aware
we need to get finalised plans back out to everyone well before
the year ends so that you can do your planning before it all
turns pear (or Christmas pudding ) shaped in December and
January.
Last year we worked well with SPARC, this year we had good
connections with the Heart Foundation, VegFed and 5plus a
day, my aim for 2006 would be to get much closer links with
the early education sector – so start talking now with
ALL the centres in your area if you haven’t already
got good links.
I am going to try to get some National links too.
I know that a lot of you already do WellChild/Tamariki Ora
activities outside the week - hence the feeling we should
extend our national profile too.
Can I remind you that when you do any WellChild /Tamariki
Ora activities -
• Let us know - we can post them on the web-site
• We may have resources that might be useful ( eg Balloons)
• PLEASE remember to include the WellChild/Tamariki
Ora logo on your promotional material - people now recognise
the healthy heart tick, the Plunket logo and SPARC’s
Push Play logo for example - we need to promote ours!
For those of you planning events in the near future are you
aware that 30th October is “Childrens’ Day”
– a nationwide promotional event sponsored by the office
for the commissioner for children - visit their web-site on
www.childrensday.org.nz for more information and some cool
resources.
I look forward to hearing all your ideas and thoughts soon,
Enjoy the Spring weather ,
regards,
Marguerite Dalton, WellChild /Tamariki Ora Week Coordinator.
