15-18 months

Child growth and development

  • Observe and assess your child’s overall health and development
  • Do a physical assessment including weight, length/height and head circumference
  • Observe gait/hips
  • Discuss and test your child’s hearing and vision
  • Review child’s immunisation and breastfeeding status

Developmental assessment

  • Complete the Parental Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) questionnaire with your Well Child provider
  • Referral on to other specialist services if required

Oral health

  • Assess your child's oral health (teeth and gums)
  • Parents shown how to regularly lift the child’s lip at home and discuss diet and oral hygiene
  • If required, get help with enrolment in a community dental service

Immunisation

Fifteen month immunisation visit- Four injections - completing initial protection against one disease, commencing protection of four others and boosting protection of another

Family health and wellbeing

Discuss maternal and parent-child interaction and bonding, mental health and parenting:

  • Mother's mental health
  • Infant and preschool mental health and attachment
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Strengthening family relationships
  • Parenting skills and support (see Parenting for child age and stage in the health education section for resources)
  • Supporting families to access income and housing if needed
